Sequencer Help

Getting Started

Getting started in the MODEM community is easy. First, register as a user - it's free and quick. When you're registered, log in and have a browse around the site.

Starting the sequencer

There are two ways of starting to work with the MODEM sequencer:

  1. Start a new song
  2. Work on an already published song

New Sequencer Song

To create a new song, go to the sequencer page and enter the name of your new song in the text box provided. You can't use spaces in the name. Click 'open'. The sequencer will open in a pop-up window.
NOTE: You must have javascript and pop-up windows enabled in your browser for the sequencer to work. You will also need the Flash Player Plug-in version 9 for your browser.
When you have finished editing, click the save button to save your song for editing or publishing later. If you don't save the song, when you close the sequencer pop-up window, your song will be lost.

Publish Sequencer Song

Collaboration is what MODEM is all about. Now that you have created your new song in the sequencer and saved it you can publish it for the other users in the MODEM community to listen to, edit and publish their own remixes.
To publish your song, if it is not already open in the sequencer, go to the sequencer page and choose it from the dropdown menu of unpublished songs - click open. Once the sequencer window has popped up, make any final edits, click save, then click publish.
The sequencer page, in the window behind the sequencer popup, will reload as a form for publishing your song. Enter the required details in the form, click publish and your work will be made available to others to hear and use in their own compostions.

Remix a published sequencer song

You can remix any sequencer song published by any member of the community. To edit or listen click 'play/edit' on a song list of all the sequencer songs made by users in the community. Or go to the sequencer page and choose from the published songs dropdown list and click 'open'. The song will now open in the sequencer. NOTE: The sequencer window may already be open. If it does not appear check that it is not open in a window behind.

Once you have edited your version of the song, click 'save' in the sequencer. You can come back later and carry on working. Or if you are ready to publish, click 'Publish'. The sequencer page, in the window behind the sequencer popup, will reload as a form for publishing your song. Enter the required details in the form, click publish and your work will be made available to others to hear and use in their own compostions. The song you used as the basis for your work will automatically be displayed by the system.

Post your song on the forum

If you want to invite other users to join in and collaborate, why not post on the sequencer forum and tell them all about it. To find out how the forums work check out the forum help page

Happy collaborating!
